Happy March! We are a few short days away from Spring which will be a welcome reprieve from this seemingly never ending Winter season!
1 – Daylight Savings Time: March 13
Our clocks have turned ahead one hour for daylight savings time. If you think losing one hour is not a problem, think again! Statistics show workplace injuries and motor vehicle incidents increase in the days following the daylight savings time change.
For more information please see:Fatigue, Extended Work Hours and Workplace Safety
2 – New and Updated OHS Resources
Alberta OHS has updated some of their health and safety resources:
- Disciplinary Action Complaints
- Incident Reporting and Investigation
- Know Your Responsibilities as a Worker
- Notifiable Occupational Diseases
- Report on Compliance
- Use Your Worker Rights
- WHMIS 2015: Information for Workers
- Workplace First Aid Approvals
3 – Print your own Certificate of Recognition
Employers now have access to a PDF file of their Certificate of Recognition (COR). No more waiting for the mail!
Employers can access and print their own certificate through their myWCB account with the Workers Compensation Board for Alberta. This is the same location where you can print your Partnerships in Injury Reduction reports. To download or print your COR certificate, just log in to your myWCB account, click on Reports and Invoices.
If you need assistance accessing your myWCB account, contact the eBusiness Support Team at 1-866-922-9221.
This will significantly decrease red tape and increase efficiency by reducing your turnaround time for a COR to reach its employer. As soon as your COR is approved, you can assess it.
4 – Psychological Health and Safety
CCOHS still has some psychological health and safety courses available free of charge until March 31, 2022. They also provide a variety of other free courses for employees / employers as well. CCOHS Courses
